Expon Capital bets on Maic, the platform for ex-hoteliers

Maic, a platform designed by former hotel managers and based in Luxembourg, is raising funds from Expon Capital to accelerate its expansion. The tool promises up to €2,500 in additional annual profit per room.

Maic, a Luxembourg start-up founded by former hotel and hotel residence managers, has secured funding led by Expon Capital Digital Tech Fund, with participation from LBAN and several private investors. The confidential amount raised should enable the company, which is already active in nine countries, to accelerate its roll-out and extend its solution to independent hotels and multi-site groups.

The platform centralises the entire customer journey - from communication to upselling - as well as day-to-day operations such as reception, housekeeping, service coordination or catering and wellness activities. Maic connects directly to PMSs, the property management systems that form the core software of a hotel: they manage reservations, occupancy, billing and customer data. Rather than replacing them, Maic complements them by adding an operational layer that most PMSs don't cover.

The company was born out of an observation made by the founders when they were managing establishments themselves: most hotel software doesn't correspond to the way teams actually work or to the pace at which they work. They therefore designed a tool designed for the day-to-day life of a manager, capable of bringing all operations together in a single environment and making their financial impact visible.

The claimed performance is substantial. For a 200-room hotel, Maic could improve annual operating profit by around 500,000 euros, or 2,500 euros in GOP (gross operating profit) per room. In a 190-room establishment in Germany, a recent deployment reported over 16% growth in ancillary revenue in 90 days.

"Software should make hotels more human. When automation frees teams from repetitive tasks, they can focus on customers. Service improves and profit naturally follows," stresses Vladimir Volkov, co-founder of Maic. His partner, Ilija Evic, former general manager of a five-star hotel in Austria, adds: "We shaped Maic around the way managers really want to work - simple day-to-day, easy to deploy across a portfolio."

For Expon Capital, the attractiveness of the project reflects a growing need in the sector. "Operators need to do more with less. Maic has demonstrated its ability to generate a clear P&L impact. The experience of the founders and their mission make them solid partners to create value", believes Lily Wang, partner of the fund.

Located at the House of Startups and a member of the EYnovation programme, Maic is part of the growing ecosystem of SaaS solutions built from Luxembourg and aiming for international expansion.
