LIST and EXPON CAPITAL join forces to attract promising AI companies

Luxembourg, March 14, 2024 –

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and Expon Capital, a Luxembourg-based venture capital investment company, have agreed to collaborate to identify opportunities and possible synergies in the field of research and technological development in the innovative digital services sector, with a particular focus on AI.

Luxembourg has a rapidly evolving tech scene, supported by the government, national funding agencies such as the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and European institutions, as well as by the expertise and cutting-edge infrastructure of its research institutes, in which LIST plays a major role. As a result, the country is ideally positioned to attract businesses, particularly dynamic and innovative start-ups active in digital technologies. Venture capital plays an equally essential role in catalysing this ambitious vision.

In this context, LIST, as a pioneer in the fields of software engineering, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and Expon Capital, a specialist in venture capital investment in European technology companies, have signed a collaboration agreement to pave the way for the establishment of such a digital innovation ecosystem.

More specifically, the agreement aims to simplify and accelerate public/private collaboration and co-investment in Research, Development and Innovation. Involved at an early stage alongside Expon Capital in the process of identifying promising companies, LIST will contribute to the development of a joint strategy aimed at developing partnerships between digital companies and the investment and financial community, and participating in the realisation of collaborative R&D and innovation projects.

Francesco Ferrero, director of the IT for Innovative Services department at LIST said:

“The strength of Luxembourg, which we are implementing with this agreement, is its ability to quickly package an attractive collaboration offer for companies deemed promising by involving public funding agencies, venture capital players represented by EXPON CAPITAL and operational R&D and Innovation players such as LIST”.

Jérôme Wittamer, Managing Partner of Expon Capital, concluded:

“We look forward to laying the foundations for a solid and lasting strategic cooperation between the complementary worlds of research here in the Grand Duchy, which will help to attract more innovative and disruptive companies in the digital field”.
